Project overview
Watercare and our contractor CB Civil will carry out watermain investigation works along sections of Whangaparaoa Road. These investigations are an important early step to confirm the location of existing underground services before construction of the new watermain begins.
Following this phase, the watermain will be renewed in stages, starting near Vipond Road and progressing towards Doyly Drive. Works have been carefully staged due to Whangaparaoa Road being a key arterial route.
Benefits
This project will help ensure a reliable and resilient drinking water supply for the local community by:
- reducing leaks and pipe failures
- minimising unplanned water outages
- extending the life of the water network
Upcoming Works

How the work will impact locals (traffic management plans, noise, road impacts, etc.)
Investigation works will be carried out in three staged sections along Whangaparaoa Road. As works progress, residents and road users may experience temporary traffic and access changes, including reduced on‑street parking, narrowed lanes, temporary speed reductions, and pedestrian detours.
Typical work hours will be 5:00am to 3:00pm, Monday to Friday. If Saturday work is required, this will be communicated in advance. Some noise may be generated, however all works will be managed in accordance with Auckland Council requirements.
No planned water shutdowns are expected during the investigation phase. The water meter servicing some properties may be assessed as part of the works. No work will take place on private property without prior notification.
Please note that other infrastructure works are also occurring in the Vipond Road area, and some overlap of activity may be visible.
