Castor Bay Wastewater Renewals

Project overview:

Watercare is upgrading sections of the Castor Bay wastewater network to improve the condition and reliability of existing wastewater pipes, reduce the risk of overflows and help protect local beaches and waterways.

The project includes CCTV inspections, wastewater pipeline relining, manhole rehabilitation, localised repairs and targeted replacement works where required.

Most rehabilitation work is being completed using trenchless technology, allowing pipes to be renewed internally while minimising excavation and disruption to the community.

• Extend the life of existing wastewater assets.

• Improve environmental outcomes and water quality.

• Ensure wastewater can continue to be safely conveyed to Watercare's treatment facilities for many years to come.

What we are doing

Works completed or underway include:

• CCTV inspection of approximately 2.3km of wastewater pipe.

• Pipeline relining across multiple locations throughout Castor Bay.

• Localised repairs where defects have been identified.

• Manhole inspections and rehabilitation works.

• Lateral junction repairs and associated quality assurance inspections.

Over 1.4km of wastewater pipeline has now been rehabilitated as part of the programme.

What happens next

Over the coming weeks, crews will continue with:

• Remaining relining activities.

• Quality assurance and testing.

• Final inspections.

• Site and property reinstatement works where required.

• Completion of additional instructed works in selected locations.

The project is currently expected to be completed in late August 2026, subject to weather and site conditions.

How will these works affect you?

While works are nearing completion, residents may continue to see crews working within roads, berms, reserves and occasionally on private property.

Residents may experience:

• Temporary traffic management.

• Construction noise during working hours.

• Occasional wastewater odour near active work areas.

• Short-duration access restrictions while works are undertaken.

Property owners will be contacted in advance if access to private property is required.
